Dental care is either unavailable or an unaffordable luxury for many adults living in South Carolina. It is common to find residents with severe pain, discomfort, and embarrassment due to poor oral health. In order to address access to care for many indigent South Carolinians, the South Carolina Dental Association has launched a dental access initiative. Dentists, dental assistants, hygienists, lab technicians and community volunteers come together to treat adult patients in need. Cleanings, restorations and extractions are offered with no charge to the patient.
We estimate we’ll need $25,000-$50,000 and at least 100 dental volunteers to stage our project.
The 8th DAD project took place at the Florence Civic Center, SC August 26-27, 2016.
1,636 adults received dental treatment. Using existing UC insurance references, this donated care totals $ 1,056,814.50 in free care!
As a dental professional you can become an integral part of this wonderful project but donating the gift of your time. Dental assistants are needed at chairside, taking radiographs, sterilization, patient registration and check-out.
